Hospital indemnity insurance in Texas
Hospital indemnity insurance is supplemental coverage that generally pays a set cash amount when you have a covered hospital admission or stay. It does not replace health insurance or Medicare. A licensed Texas agent at RGI Group can explain how these policies typically work and what to compare.
What hospital indemnity insurance generally is
A hospital indemnity policy generally pays a fixed benefit, set in the policy, for covered events such as a hospital admission or each day of a covered inpatient stay. The benefit is usually paid regardless of what your other coverage pays, and you can typically use it for expenses like deductibles, copays, travel or household bills. Benefit amounts, covered events and exclusions vary by insurer and policy.
It is not a replacement for health coverage
Hospital indemnity is a limited-benefit, supplemental product. It is not major medical insurance, does not meet the Affordable Care Act's coverage requirements and is not a Medicare plan. It is generally considered alongside existing coverage such as an employer plan, a Marketplace plan, Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan.
- Pays defined amounts for defined events — not a percentage of your bill.
- May include waiting periods or pre-existing condition limitations.
- Some policies add benefits for observation stays, ICU days or outpatient surgery; many do not.
- Terms, eligibility and premiums are set by the insurer.
Why some Medicare beneficiaries look at it
Some people with Medicare Advantage review hospital indemnity because many Medicare Advantage plans have per-day inpatient copays. A fixed cash benefit may help offset some of those costs. Whether it makes sense depends on your plan's cost sharing, the policy's terms and your budget — it is worth comparing before buying.
How an independent agent can help
We can explain the general structure of hospital indemnity policies, compare options from more than one insurer and review how a policy would interact with the coverage you already have. We don't ask for diagnoses or medical history in an initial conversation, and we cannot guarantee approval or a specific benefit.

Frequently asked questions
- Is hospital indemnity insurance the same as health insurance? No. It is a limited-benefit supplemental policy that pays fixed amounts for covered events. It does not replace health insurance or Medicare.
- Can I have hospital indemnity with Medicare Advantage? Generally yes. Some people use it to help with inpatient copays, but it's important to compare your plan's costs with the policy's benefit and premium.
- Who receives the benefit? Benefits are typically paid to the policyholder, not to the hospital, according to the policy's terms.
- Are there waiting periods? Some policies have waiting periods or pre-existing condition limitations. Read the policy terms or ask us to walk through them with you.
- Does RGI Group have an office in my city? No. RGI Group has one office, in Austin, and serves Texas residents statewide by phone and virtual appointment. Paperwork can usually be completed electronically, so you do not need to travel to meet with us.
- Is there a cost to review my options with RGI Group? You do not pay RGI Group a separate fee to review coverage options. You are also free to enroll on your own through the official government resources linked on this page.
- Can we talk in Spanish? Yes. Appointments and follow-up can be handled in English or Spanish, whichever you prefer.
- Which plans and carriers are available to me? Availability depends on your county, eligibility, and the product you are looking at, and it can change from year to year. We can tell you what we are able to offer for your situation rather than promise a specific plan or price.
- What should I have ready for a first conversation? Your ZIP code, who needs coverage, the doctors or prescriptions that matter to you, and a general sense of your budget. Please do not send Social Security numbers, Medicare ID numbers, date of birth, income, diagnoses, or prescription details through this website.
