Medicare and Medicare Supplement help in Florida
Florida has one of the largest Medicare populations in the country, and many beneficiaries split the year between Florida and another state. That makes the choice between a local Medicare Advantage network and Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) especially important. Rolando Gutierrez of RGI Group is licensed in Florida and helps residents compare options by phone or video, in English or Spanish.
Two main paths in Florida
Original Medicare works with providers nationwide that accept Medicare, and many people add a Medigap policy and a Part D drug plan. Medicare Advantage plans combine coverage through a network tied to your county. Plan availability differs across Florida's 67 counties.
Seasonal residents and permanent address
Your plan's service area is based on your permanent residence. If you move your permanent address to or from Florida, you generally get a Special Enrollment Period to change Advantage or Part D coverage. Medigap rights after a move depend on your situation.
Medicaid and Medicare together
People with both Medicare and Florida Medicaid may have plans designed for dual-eligible members. The Florida Department of Children and Families decides Medicaid eligibility, not an agent.
2027 Annual Enrollment Period
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, for changes that generally start January 1, 2027. It is different from your Initial Enrollment Period around age 65 and from Medigap open enrollment.
Questions to ask before you choose
- Is Florida my permanent address, or do I live here part of the year?
- Do I want a local network, or nationwide access through Original Medicare?
- Are my prescriptions covered by the plan I am considering?
- Do I qualify for Medicaid, a Medicare Savings Program or Extra Help?
Frequently asked questions
- Does RGI Group have an office in Florida? No. RGI Group's only office is in Austin, Texas. Florida residents are served by phone or video by a Florida-licensed agent.
- Can I keep a Medicare Advantage plan from another state if I move to Florida? Usually not, because Advantage plans are tied to a service area. Moving your permanent address generally gives you a Special Enrollment Period to choose new coverage.
